Yesterday's performance by Fernando Alonso on the Spanish GP has won praise from many members of the F1 paddock. Alonso raced the race of his life to finish second just 6 seconds away fro Michael Schumacher and his mighty Ferrari 2003-GA

Jean Todt, Ferrari

"We knew they (Renault) would be quick, we saw they were going to be strong and the car has very good potential on this kind of circuit," Todt said. "I think they had very good tyres and Alonso did a very good job. Definitely they made a good step forward, but I don't think it will be the same everywhere."

Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, after Spanish Qual and before the race

"Fernando is doing an outstanding job, but then I thought he did that with Minardi, he has consistently improved and shown his capabilities."

Pierre Dupasquier, Michelin

"Alonso's performance was brilliant, particularly when you consider his relative inexperience and the calibre of the drivers he is up against. It was good to see that our tyres helped him to race so strongly today."

Flavio Briatore, Renault

“It's a victory for the whole team. Fernando did an excellent job. I think our strategy was perfect,”

Mike Gascoyne, Renault

‘As for Fernando, I don't need to add anything. He had a faultless performance.”

Denis Chevrier, Renault

“It's a satisfaction to see our car fighting through the race against Schumacher's car, Fernando managed to finish in between the two Ferraris.”

Paul Stoddart, Minardi

“Our congratulations also go to Fernando Alonso - what a fantastic effort to finish a brilliant second at his home Grand Prix. Well done!"
