Renault F1 performed today better than expected by setting the 3rd and 4th best times in today's qualifying. The team already mentioned before the weekend started that they were expecting a strong performance.

And the strong performance was better than expected as Renault put both drivers on the second line of the grid just behind the new Ferrari 2003-GA.

Michael Schumacher showed how hungry he is by setting the pole position with a time of 1.17.762. He was able to set also the fastest times in the second and third sectors.

His teammate, Rubens Barrichello, set the second best time, just 0.25 seconds behind his teammate.

Fernando Alonso set a blistering lap and with a 1.18.233 was able to get p3 in front of all his fans. His teammate Jarno Trulli was just behind him for fourth, making Renault to be 3rd and 4th.

On the press conference Alonso declared: "It is quite a satisfaction to be on the 2nd row for tomorrow at my home GP here in Barcelona. I hope to collect a good load of points tomorrow on the race".

Button and Panis where able to place themselves in front of the Williams and the McLarens of Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard.

Montoya was 9th and Raikkonen did not set a time as he went off on La Moreneta turn.
