The PETRONAS Formula One Demo has become a tradition for PETRONAS since 1999, the year it commenced the title sponsorship for the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix.

The event, very popular and has attracted thousands of Malaysians, has been held in Kuala Lumpur (1999), Penang (2000), Johor Bahru (2001), Kuantan (2002), Alor Setar (2003) and Kuching (2004).

This year, in conjunction with PETRONAS’ 10 Years in F1 celebration, PETRONAS took the PETRONAS Formula One Demo back to Kuala Lumpur. Once again the vicinity of the streets of Jalan Ampang/P.Ramlee/Yap Kwan Seng was a hive of activities. The two SAUBER PETRONAS drivers, Jacques Villeneuve and Felipe Massa, delighted a mesmerized crowd of 80,000 people with their skills. They were joined by other celebrities in the PETRONAS Motorsports’ family - including Carl Fogarty of Foggy PETRONAS Racing Team - who also showed off their skills in the Demo on the 1.8 kilometers long track.

Being part of the PETRONAS community relation programme a group of 100 children from welfare homes around the Klang Valley were invited to see the PETRONAS Formula One Demo. They visited the Demo’s “Pit Stop” and “Garage”, as well as the PETRONAS’ 10 Years in F1 Exhibition at Galeri PETRONAS and PETROSAINS at the Suria KLCC shopping center in Kuala Lumpur. The children were joined by Jacques Villeneuve and Felipe Massa as well as other members of the PETRONAS Motorsports’ family.
