Airdrie v. Forfar - 3/8/02 Preview

Airdrie play host to Forfar Athletic in our first ever league fixture as the new club. Sandy Stewart will lead his troops into battle in his first competitive match as a manager, despite revealing his failure to sign Partick striker Gerry Britton.

Airdrie should be along the same lines as last weeks friendly with the Rovers with maybe only some subtle changes such as McGuire for Ronald up front, and possibly Armstrong for Boyle on the right wing. Airdrie will be boosted by the confirmation of Marvyn Wilson's signing for the season, a move which guaruntees some real quality in the Airdrie team.

Forfar will not be short of confidence for this game and will provide more than a stiff challenge. Forfor will include former Diamonds, Brian McCloy and Scott McCulloch in defence, allied to proven quality players in Paul Tosh, Martin Bavage who has signed from ICT this summer and George Shaw.

Airdrie's biggest concern will be the apparent lack of firepower which Sandy has acknowledged publically in today's press as he admitted failure in signing Gerry Britton from Partick. Britton would have guarunteed goals despite being less than popular with the Airdrie punters. The search for a proven scorer will go on with Glancy, McGuire and Ronald carrying the burden, as Sandy searches for the cavalry.
