John Reynolds’ hopes dashed by testing crash

John Reynolds’ hopes for the 2005 British Superbike championship have been dashed before the start of the season, by a leg-breaking accident in testing.

Nearing the end of the first day of testing at the Valencia Circuit in Spain, reigning British champion John Reynolds fell at turn six and has broken the tibia and fibia bones in his right leg. He was transferred to the Valencia General Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Scott Smart, who was testing for Rizla Suzuki alongside John, said, “I am gutted about John, and I know the team will be sorting out the best medical care for him.” Team Manager Robert Wicks said, “We are marshalling every resource we can to ensure John makes as quick a recovery as possible. We are consulting with the hospital doctors, viewing x-rays to determine the best treatment for John.”

This is a big blow for John as the start of the British Superbike series is only a matter of weeks away. John will be devastated by this, but I feel sure that he will be even more inspired to carry on and will make a fast recovery.
