An encouraging start for Winter Supermoto series

The Maxxis Motard Masters Winter Supermoto series got off to a flying start, with round one at Three Sisters, and the organisers aim to repeat that success at round two.

The first of three stand-alone rounds attracted a big crowd to the Three Sisters circuit, near Wigan, and promoters BROXX are expecting bigger and better things from the second round on 12th and 13th February.

Series organisers KWS came through their first-ever Supermoto event with flying colours, and have received the thumbs up from competitors - who put on some exciting racing in all four classes, despite the icy cold weather. Now both BROXX and KWS are preparing for round two at Three Sisters on 12 and 13 February, and the final round which is at Lydd, Kent, on 5 and 6 March.

BROXX spokesman Tony Brock said of round one, “I’m delighted with the public and riders’ response to the first meeting of the series. The weather was a mixed bag, as the freezing temperatures gave us plenty of track preparation work to do, but the winter sunshine all day on Sunday was very welcome,” he added.
“We had some fantastic racing and, although we had quite a few fallers due to the tricky conditions, we had no race stoppages or serious injuries all weekend.”

Brock was encouraged by the racing in the new SM4 class, which is for riders over 14 years old, on 85cc machines. “I was especially delighted that the new SM4 class was well received by the public, and that these particular riders enjoyed Supermoto so much on their first ever experience,” he said. “We’ll be taking on board all the helpful comments we’ve received about the race weekend, and we hope that the next round will be even better than the first one.”

Veteran rider Ady Smith took second overall in the SM1 class, and was runner-up in a thrilling Super Final, and the Bracken KTM rider gave his backing to the new Three Sisters layout. “It’s a cracking track, and that has made the racing very enjoyable,” said Smith after round one. “They’ve put a lot of work in here that benefits everyone who uses the Three Sisters circuit, not just for Supermoto. I will be back at the next round trying my best to win it.”
