Alstare Suzuki test at Phillip Island in Australia

The 1996 World Champion, Troy Corser, and British Superbike star Yukio Kagayama have now tested their new 2005 Suzuki GSX-R1000 - a good testing at the Australian circuit of Phillip Island, in good weather conditions, with Troy posting a time of 1min 34.2secs and Yukio 1min 34.8secs.

The tests were not without incidents, with troy having collided with seagulls on two occasions, and Yukio failing but not having sustained any injuries.

Compared to the fastest World Superbike lap around the circuit of 1min 34.514secs, set by Garry McCoy last year aboard the Xerox Ducati, the Suzukis are certainly up to speed - with even more developments to come.

As many people will know, Yukio is very familiar with the big Suzuki and, although having to learn new circuits for this year, will I feel sure be in the top runners - he learns circuits very quickly, as those who rode against him in the British Superbikes found.

All the major manufacturers are running in the WSBK series this year, with any one of them more than able to take the title. Can Suzuki take this series? Who knows, but you can bet on one thing – it’s a series you don’t want to miss!
