Supermoto riders’ thumbs up to new-look 3 Sisters

Some of Europe’s top Supermoto riders have given the new-look Three Sisters circuit the thumbs up ahead of the opening round of ‘Motard Masters Winter Supermoto Series’ at the Lancashire venue this weekend.

Around 60 riders took part in a recent test day at the Wigan circuit, and gave it their backing ahead of round one of the three-event series which begins on Saturday.

With two days of exciting action in prospect in four classes, including the new S4 class for 85cc machines, it was important for the event organisers to put the alterations to the circuit to the acid test - provided by a wide range of riders of all abilities. The AMCA, who are sanctioning the series, also used the test day to try out a new timing system which came through with flying colours.

Belgian rider Fred Fiorentino, who will race the series for DCR Husaberg, said, “It’s my first time here, so I don’t know what the old circuit layout was like, but I’ve had a great time here and I can’t wait for the first round of the series.” Fiorentino’s praise was matched by that from Bracken KTM team-mates Ady Smith and Matt Winstanley. Smith said, “I love the new tack layout. It’s made the circuit both more interesting and demanding, but at the same time safer. It’s a great result.”
“Brilliant! I love the new track and it’s now a proper Supermoto circuit, which tests your tarmac and off-road ability,” added Winstanley.

A host of other top Supermoto and road race competitors will also be taking part in the first round on Saturday and Sunday. John McGuinness (Plasauto DCR Husaberg), Switzerland’s Dani Müller (WIRE Yamaha) and Alice Racing KTM’s new signing Leighton Haigh are all taking part this weekend. TM UK’s Irish Supermoto Champion Greg Kinsella, top German privateer Jochen Jasinski, Czech Republic’s Petr Vorlicek (MW Racing) and P&O 2004 Irish Winter Series Champion Davy McKee have also signed up.

Three Sisters will also see the début of the new S4 class, where junior riders will race on 85cc machines. The action gets underway at 10:00am on Saturday, 22nd January, with free practice, qualifying and heat races going on until 4:30pm. The action recommences at 10:00am on Sunday, with warm-up, finals, last chance races and super final going on until 4:30pm.
