Christian Iddon shines at Pembrey Supermoto

Christian Iddon was ultra impressive at Pembrey this weekend. Riding for the first time on board the Husqvarna, Christian took to the bike like a duck to water. Not only winning the 650 Final, Iddon also took the win in the Super Final.

At only nineteen years of age, Christian won everything he rode in on Sunday. With victory in all the heats and semi-finals, he was on a mission.

It was a successful weekend all round for the newly formed Husky Sport squad, with both Jay Smith and Warren Steele securing second position in both the 650 Final and Super Final respectively.

Reigning British Supermoto Champion Iddon was adamant that a new make of machinery wasn’t going to get in the way of his winning ways, as he happily extended his lead in the Winter Supermoto series.

Both Steele and Smith got themselves into trouble and crashed out in two of the races. Steele came to blows in the semi-final, crashing in spectacular style over the jump on the first lap of the race. Slightly injuring his already damaged leg, Steele was unable to restart his Husky and was forced to sit out for the remainder of the race.

This placed him 40th on the grid for the Open Final race. Powering his way through the riders, Steele managed to manoeuvre his way to an impressive fourth place. A start of seventh on the grid for the Super Final and Steele could see Iddon breaking away at the front, but was determined to keep him in sight.

It was looking hopeful of a 1-2-3 positioning in the Super Final, with Christian leading the way. Jay Smith fought a strong race in second and Steele was hot on his heels in third. Jay got tied up with a slower back marker on the penultimate lap, forcing him out to a wider line, where he came into contact with a rather large pothole.

Hitting the hole flat out Jay and his Husky came out worse. Remounting, Jay struggled his way through the pack but with only one lap remaining he was unable to make it back onto the podium step. Steele was looking strong and powered his Husky over the line in second place. Crossing the line in dominant form was Iddon from Steele from Honda mounted Leighton Haigh.

Mike Wright had a steady and progressive day in the 450 Class, gaining reasonable results throughout the day and pushing hard in what is proving to be a tough class.
