Jenson Button continued on Honda's merry way by posting the fastest time at the end of the second day. This pushed Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella down into second, only 0.036 seconds behind. Toyota suffered a rare engine failure in the back of Ralf's TF106, but both cars finished in the top 10.
Fisichella and Alonso racked up the miles in their Renault R26's, covering 238 laps between them. Behind the Renault pair came the second Honda of Rubens Barrichello, Honda like Renault also completed a staggering amount of mileage, finishing off with a total of 235 laps.
McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth and sixth, the British team were also very busy finishing the day with 211 laps to their credit.
David Coulthard's Red Bull Racing split the two Toyota's, Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli worked on tyres for Bahrain, as well as getting to grips with their new cars.
Super Aguri showed some impressive pace with Takuma Sato, the 4 year old car finished only 5.8 seconds off Button's fastest time.
