Toyota to avoid 'B spec' racer this season

Panasonic Toyota Racing team president John Howett has said the team will not build a 'B spec' Toyota this season after speculation in the German media.

During the 2004 season the team brought out an upgraded version of their struggling TF104 with little success, one year on the team has scored more points than the last 3 years put together.

With the focus now on for their first Grand Prix victory the German media speculated that there would be an upgraded version of their current TF105 at Silverstone which would prove to be half a second faster than the current model. But team president John Howett dismissed this rumour. "We will follow a normal development path," Howett told 'Premiere' TV, "which would include three or four development stages for the car."

John Howett also stated that there planning was on the 2006 model and the new V8 engine which is why Toyota guru Mike Gascoyne will feature less and less at the remaining Grand Prix's this season.
