Racing in three different countries, in three different race series, the three young Red Bull Driver Search winners who represent America on the Red Bull Junior Team once again had strong race weekends as they each continue to forge their way into Formula 1.

Scott Speed, fresh from his debut as a Formula 1 Friday test driver with Red Bull Racing, was back to racing this weekend in the GP2 series as part of the British Grand Prix at the famed Silverstone circuit. Speed had a weekend that would be the envy of most of his competitors, taking fourth in the first race and then scoring the fastest race lap on his way to second place in the second race. The young Californian is still hungry to take his first win in the category, and is hoping for a bit of luck in the next round at Hockenheim.

“Everything went exactly to plan,” said Speed. “I was confident that I had a fast car, and sure enough I had a clear space and did fastest lap and got two points, and then I put pressure on the guys the whole race, and got by two of them to take second. We’ve been quick all year, obviously, and with a bit of opportunity a win is severely overdue.”

Colin Fleming, who has had to endure over a month of waiting since racing last, was once again in his World Series by Renault machine. Like Speed, Fleming had a difficult first race of the weekend, but rebounded in the second race to step up to the podium with third place, enjoying his first spray of Renault champagne this season.

Young John Edwards of Arkansas moved to Europe in March and jumped headfirst into the highly competitive karting ranks in Italy before making a move into the Formula Renault 2000 category. Racing with the same team that Scott Speed scored double championships with last season; Edwards qualified a strong twelfth in a massive field and raced his way to up fifth in the first race, backing that up with an eighth place finish in the second race.

Fleming and Edwards will be expecting similar success when they race in Bilbao, Spain next weekend.
