Webber on Pizzonia

With speculation about the future of Antonio Pizzonia increasing, Mark Webber has made some interesting comments about his team mate.

Webber says he can't help Antonio perform well. He also thinks that perhaps Antonio needed more development in the lower formulas before the jump to Formula One. Mark says that Pizzonia has the speed, but is showing it in practice and not transferring it to the race.


"I feel sorry for Antonio but, at this level, there's no way you can start helping another driver. This is not Formula Ford," Mark says "You have to stand on your own two feet. In this game you fight the war with the soldiers you've got because no one wants excuses."
"My road to get here has been pretty rocky but the hard times toughen you up. A lot of drivers think they have worked hard to get into Formula One but they haven't. And once you are in, you have to make sure you don't leave a stone unturned and keep pushing yourself. It makes you realise you can't get too cocky and blasé about it all. Testing is one thing but, on the big day, you have to perform. I think Antonio can turn things around because he has been quick during a Grand Prix weekend but it's been in the wrong sessions."

There are rumours that if Pizzonia doesn't perform very well, in the Spanish GP, he will be replaced. Alexander Wurz seems to be the most likely replacement. Wurz is currently testing for the McLaren Team and has Formula One Racing experience, with mixed results, for Benetton. There are also rumours that Anthony Davidson, who replaced Alex Yoong for two Races at Minardi, could be the replacement.
