Double Double Championships for Red Bull?

In 2010 the World Constructor Championship fell to Red Bull Racing at the penultimate race in Brazil, but Sebastian Vettel had to wait another week to secure his first World Drivers Crown. With his name all but engraved on the 2011 trophy, eyes turn to the 2011 Constructors battle.

Whilst the glory, headlines and marketing exposure go to the driver who wins the World Drivers Championship and by extension his team shares the limelight, it is the constructors title that determines how much money the team gets and the all important pitlane positions for the following year.

Sebastian Vettel needs just a single point, or a non race win from Jenson Button in Japan to wrap up the drivers title, however, there is a (little) bit further to go in the contructors championship.

Ferrari's slim mathematical chance of the WCC went up in smoke in Singapore as they now trail Red Bull by 223 points with a maximum of 215 available. That leaves the fight with just McLaren who are 138 points behind.

Whilst Red Bull would require a monumental melt down to miss out on back to back double Driver and Constructors Championships, even a Red Bull 1 - 2 in Japan would mean a solitary 5th place would be enough for McLaren to force the championship on to at least Korea. To put it another way, to secure both Championships in Japan, Red Bull need to outscore McLaren by 34 points. A tough ask, but then again, surely 2 parties are better than one!
