Vettel Extends Red Bull Contract to 2011 With 2012 Option
By Ian Lockwood
August 21 2009
Red Bull Racing is pleased to announce that it has extended its contract with Sebastian Vettel until the end of 2011, with an option for 2012.
Twenty two-year-old Vettel is a graduate of the Red Bull Junior Team, which he joined at the age of 12. He has already won two grands prix this year – in China and the UK – bringing his GP win total to three and he currently lies third in the 2009 Formula One Drivers’ Championship.

WOW that is big news and also that is great news for Mark Webber......because someone like Vettel and his managers would not lock themselves into a team that is not going to be competitive over the next couple of years.....so i think this is great news for Webber, because it means Webber will be at a top team next year!

Really? i would have thought he would have had someone looking out for him, maybe someone that is like a manager to him but do not call themselves his manager?

Seb gets 2+1.
Mark gets 1+0.
I doubt Horner does not believe Mark can do the job or that Mark does not wish to stay longer at RBR (since he has said he wants to see his career out at RBR).
So I think Mark just simply costs too much and they could not get a longer term agreement in place because of this.

I doubt Horner does not believe Mark can do the job
That Jez, is an example of how to talk in positives rather than negatives. Means the same thing, come across a whole lot simpler!
Kinda more uplifting too!

Captain IQ please enlighten us on your views as to why Mark has only received a 1+0 after he has stated publicly on numerous ocassions he wishes to see his career out at RBR, when Seb has managed a 2+1.
I am sure there is someone out there that is definitely interested.

Obviously his stock has risen so he demanded a single year, might want to bail to a top team after RBR suck next year. I'm sure someone like Ferrari would like a world champion to join them.

So Mark is a opportunist who likes to go back on his public statement of which team he sees his career ending with?

No, he just likes drinking Red Bull. He can still go to Ferrari and finish his career with Red Bull as he said. As I believe you've said before, you've got to read between the lines.

Tell us why you have named Mark 4 times yet Vettel just the once when the thread is about Vettel.....
Start a thread about Marks contract if you want to discuss your support for Mark....I'll be happy to contribute
As for Vets....its great news for the Kid & RBRs sustainability.....Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, MARK would be happy for the kid too....Sorry I have a stutter

Pretty simple, next years car is being built around the chosen one, so yes it is important for the team to have direction and see a future to build around..
Mark is very capable (second in the drivers championship so he must be a dog of a driver) but he is old and always best to keep your option open if you see the next best thing coming through. No point in paying mark webber out for 2 years to hire someone else now is it.. But if nothing exciting is coming through then yes you keep him going..
I really think next years regulations will play into Webbers hands with low fuel qualifying and one tank of fuel I only see his stocks as going up..
Flexibility is always a good thing

Seb is already contracted till 2010.
He has now extended the contracted with a 1 + 1 year option.
Great news for him and the team, as seb has great speed. I hope his development continues to mature.
I agree that this must signify Red Bulls desire to continue pumping a lot more into F1, but may also be a reflection of the team offering to design the entire car around him. He won't get that anywhere else.
