The three WilliamsF1 drivers would fail to impress after the second Friday practice session at Imola. Alex was in eighth while Nico and Mark were way down the order in seventeenth and nineteenth places. Both Nico and Mark would only come out in the final fifteen minutes of the session.

In a session
that would see both Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg come out quite late in the
session Nico and Mark would finish in seventeenth and nineteenth
respectively. Friday driver Alex Wurz could only manage eighth.
It would be Anthony Davidson who would set the early quickest times but with
fifteen minutes of the second practice session at Imola completed the
McLaren's of Raikkonen and Montoya were on top of the times with Kimi
setting a time of 1m:26.782. Alex Wurz was third with a 1m:27.433. But Massa
would split the two McLaren's moving into second with a time of 1m:26.913.
Trulli and Barrichello were in sixth and seventh.
Michael
was now third with a time of 1m:26.933. Neither Mark Webber or Nico Rosberg
had taken to the circuit. Michael would move into the top spot with a time
of 1m:25.470. Fisichella was now in fifth with a 1m:27.292. The Renault of
Alonso was in seventeenth. Neither of the race drivers for BMW Sauber or Red
Bull had taken to the circuit. But Alonso would quickly move to the top of
the times with a time of 1m:26.583 that would see him second. Still we were
waiting to see Mark or Nico come out for their first laps with thirty
minutes of the session remaining. Alex was now down in eighth. Now both of
the Red Bull's of Coulthard and Klien had come out. They were joined by
Jacques Villeneuve. Davidson was now in seventh with a time of 1m:27.125.
BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica would move into sixth with a time of 1m:26.973.
Montoya was now down in seventh with a time of 1m:27.065. In a turn around
from his previous form Barrichello would move into third with a time of
1m:26.653. But he was still 1.1 seconds behind the quickest time of Michael
Schumacher. Montoya would put in a quick lap to move into second with a
1m:26.334, while Davidson was now in fourth. Alex would come back out and
would improve his times to finish in second with a 1m:26.328. Button and
Ralf Schumacher finally came out with twenty five minutes remaining. But both Mark and Nico
were still in their garages, possibly waiting on any last minute setup
information from Alex.
Alonso would move ahead of Davidson and was now in fourth. Button's firs lap
would see him in fifteenth. Alonso's next lap would see him in second with a
1m:25.732. On his next lap Button was now in fifth with a 1m:26.569. Massa
was in sixth ahead of Davidson and Barrichello. Nico would finally come out
and with fifteen minutes of the session remaining he would have completed
just four laps and set a time of 1m:28.178 to be eighteenth fastest.
At the top of the times Davidson was now in second with a time of 1m:25.699.
Kubica was in fourth. Nico would improve with a 1m:27.481 to be fifteenth.
Ten minutes remaining and Mark had still yet to turn a wheel. Trulli was now
in fifth with a 1m:26.029. With just over five minutes remaining Mark Webber
would finally come out. Nico was back in his garage. There was a flood of
drivers out on the circuit in the closing minutes. Heidfeld was now in
eighth with a 1M;26.387. Mark's first lap would see him in twenty second
with a time of 1m:27.767.
Nico was back out joining both Mark and Alex. Alonso was now in second with
a 1m:25.474 to be just 0.004 behind Michael. Kubica would move ahead of
Michael but he was passed by Alonso who would set a time of 1m:25.043. Mark
was now in nineteenth with a 1m:27.157. Nico was in seventeenth as the
session came to a close. Michael was able to sneak past Kubica to move into
second with a 1m:25.371. Davidson was in fourth followed by Massa, Trulli,
Wurz, Montoya, Heidfeld, and Fisichella. Fisichella was able to move into
sixth with a 1m:25.991.
With the end of the session Alex had completed thirty one laps compared with
the six and ten of Mark and Nico. The team certainly seems to be wanting to
avoid putting any extra miles on the engines of their race drivers. |
