Vallelunga Test 06:04:2006 Day Two

The WilliamsF1 team would wind up their two day Vallelunga test with Alex Wurz continuing the driving. On a day that was overcast in the morning followed by sunny conditions late in the day Alex would set the slowest time of the day, a 1m:16.270. He would complete ninety laps. He would have a minor accident in the morning which would limit his track time.

WurzThe team would focus on tyre testing for the next round of the championship at Imola. Cosworth continued work on their CA2006 engine working on improving reliability as well as improving fuel consumption.

Mike Condliffe, Test Team Manager, WilliamsF1:
“This morning was overcast and grey with low track temperatures and Alex suffered a low speed accident. Fortunately, he was fine but the car required some repairs which reduced our running time. In the afternoon session, with improved track conditions, we continued testing tyre compounds in preparation for Imola while we also carried out brake cooling modifications.”

Sean O’Mahony, Principal Engineer – F1 Race Engineering, Cosworth Ltd:
“We continued to test some new specification parts at the Vallelunga test aimed at improving reliability. We pushed engine mileages beyond those that we need at races to see what margins we have and generally we are pleased with the results of these tests. We also tried some new engine calibrations aimed at reducing fuel consumption and improving traction control – the test results were positive and we will continue to fine tune these new strategies at Barcelona next week.”

The WilliamsF1 Team returns to the track with a three day test in Barcelona next week, commencing on Tuesday 11 April.
