Malaysian GP Friday 2nd Practice

For the WilliamsF1 team the second Friday practice session at Sepang would turn out to be a mixed up affair with Friday driver Alex Wurz finishing second but for race drivers Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg they would finish way down the order in twentieth and twenty-first. Mark would only come out to put in a time with just ten minutes of the session remaining. To have a driver run for only ten minutes in two hours seems rather odd.

The second Friday session for the Malaysian Grand Prix would get under way with Wurz, Davidson, Albers, and Kubica all taking to the track. Wurz was the fastest driver of the morning session with a time of 1m:34.946. Other drivers would come out including Davidson, Monteiro,, Liuzzi and Doornbos.

RosbergAs the drivers started to set times Doornbos would have a problem with his left mirror and would pull into the pits. Kubica would set the quickest with a 1m:38.515. Davidson was second with a 1m:38.657. Alex was in
third with a 1m:59.051. Both of the Toyota's were out on the circuit. On his second lap Alex would go fastest with a time of 1m:38.107. Scott Speed and Felipe Massa were also out on the track. Davidson was now second with a 1m:38.262. Massa would have an off track moment but was able to continue.

Trulli was now in fourth with a 1m:39.749. But Ralf would move ahead of his team-mate with a 1m:39.028. Raikkonen was out on his installation lap. At the front Davidson was now fastest with a 1m:38.012. Speed and Liuzzi were in seventh and eighth. Just was quickly Alex would move back in front of Anthony with a 1m:37.860. Kimi's first lap would see him set set the quickest time in the opening two sectors. He would continue this and cross the line with a 1m:36.132 to be fastest by 1.728 seconds. Michael Schumacher and Montoya were now out on the circuit.

Davidson would spin his Honda in the final sector but was able to get his car going out of the gravel trap. Michael Schumacher's would set a time of 1m:37.902 to move him up to third. But Massa would move ahead putting his Ferrari into second, a time of 1m:36.825. Montoya was now in third with a 1m:37.827. Takuma Sato was slowest with a 1m:42.798. Wurz was now in fourth. Kubica was now in seventh. There was forty minutes of the session remaining.

We had yet to see Renault, WilliamsF1, Honda, Red Bull, Sauber send out their regular drivers. Ten drivers had yet to set a time. With just over thirty minutes remaining both Fisichella and Alonso would take to the circuit. Wurz was able to move into second with a time of 1m:36.641, to be 0.5 seconds off Kimi's time. On his first flying lap Fisichella would move into fourth with a 1m:37.231. Klien and Barrichello would also come out. Liuzzi would spin his car while entering the pit lane.

Alonso was now in second with a 1m:36.539. Button had joined team-mate Barrichello for his first look at the circuit today. Rubens was now in seventh with a 1m:37.650. On his second lap Alonso went fastest with a 1m:35.851. Twenty five minutes remaining and still we had yet to see Mark or Nico. It would be Nico who would be first to come out. Button was now in sixth with a 1m:37.332 but Michael would push him down one spot. We would have Massa and Michael Schumacher in fifth and sixth. But just as quickly Massa would move
into third with a 1m:36.589.

WebberMontoya would strike problems with his car forcing him to pull his car back into the pit lane so his mechanics could get to it. Nico's first lap would see him in nineteenth with a 1m:39.907. He would improve with a 1m:39.293. At the front the order was Alonso, Raikkonen, Massa, Fisichella, Wurz, Button, Michael Schumacher, Kubica, Barrichello, and Montoya. Twenty minutes remaining and mark Webber had still yet to come out.

Nico was now in sixteenth with a 1m:38.860. He would lower this to now be fifteenth with a 1m:38.205. Heidfeld and Villeneuve were out on the circuit. There was now just a handful of drivers out. Scott Speed was in eleventh while team-mate Liuzzi was in twenty-first. Thirteen minutes left in the session. Heidfeld was now in seventeenth. Mark was seen in his pit, raising the question as to whether there was a problem with his car. Trulli had moved into eighth and Heidfeld twelfth. Both Alonso and Fisichella were back out. Joining them was Alex Wurz. Finally we would see Mark getting into his FW28 with less than ten minutes remaining.

A new fastest first sector to Alex Wurz. So far the Austrian had completed twenty four laps. Alex would complete his lap with a time of 1m:35.388 to move ahead of Alonso. Now there was a flood of drivers coming back out to put in their last laps. Mark had completed his installation lap. Montoya would spin his McLaren in Turn twelve, in the same fashion as Davidson did earlier. Nico was still in his WilliamsF1 garage. Davidson was now in sixth. Massa had moved ahead of Kimi. Mark's first lap was a 1m:39.064.

With only a few minutes reaming it did not look like Nico would set any further times. Alex was till leading from Alonso, Massa, Raikkonen, Fisichella, and Davidson. Davidson would set a new fastest first sector. Mark was till down in twenty fourth, but with a 1m:38.081 he would improve to be twentieth. Davidson would set a new fastest second sector time, finishing his lap with a 1m:35.041 to move ahead of Alex at the top of the times.

While Alex was second we had Mark and Nico down in twentieth and twenty-first paces as the session came to an end. With the end of the session the top ten were Davidson, Wurz, Alonso, Massa, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Michael Schumacher, Button, Villeneuve and Barrichello.
