For WilliamsF1 test driver Alex Wurz today would see him take to the track
in the new FW28 for the first time. The WilliamsF1 team had returned to
Jerez for another three days of testing. Joining Alex was Nico Rosberg.
Alex
would only complete forty nine laps on the day after having to contend with
two mechanical failures. Despite this he would set the fastest time of the
day with a 1m:18.139. Nico would finish the day fourth. Both drivers would
work on further improving the FW28 prior to the opening race in Bahrain.
WilliamsF1 Team Technical Director Sam Michael commented on the days
testing.
Michael said: “Today, Nico and Alex started off the Jerez test, both in
FW28s. The drivers worked on mechanical set-up all day and found some
interesting directions to pursue for the rest of the test. Mark and Nico
will be driving tomorrow and will each spend half the day carrying out
pit-stop practices with the race team crew.”
Alex Wurz added his views by saying: “Today, I drove the FW28 for the first
time. I soon familiarised myself with the new characteristics, which my lap
times showed, and I feel quite comfortable with it already. Nevertheless, I
am a perfectionist and that means that we need to do some more work to
extract more out of our package. The basic elements are there, now it’s just
a race against time to optimise everything before the season opener. We’ll
be pushing flat out!” |
