It has been
confirmed that current BMW WilliamsF1 driver Nick Heidfeld will join the BMW
Formula One team commencing 2007, in what is a two year deal.
With Heidfeld under option with the WilliamsF1 team for 2006 Nick could only
commit himself to the new team from 2007. As to whether the WilliamsF1 team
has taken up their option on Heidfeld is yet to be confirmed but the
WilliamsF1 team has until 15th September in which to do so.
But Kick's future with the WilliamsF1 team in 2006 is wrapped up in the
ongoing discussions regarding the future of Jenson Button with the team. If
Button does join the team in 2006 then Nick should be free to join the BMW
team in 2006. But if Jenson does stay with BAR then the WilliamsF1 team will
have an excellent fall back position with Nick, a driver who has proved
himself to be a valuable asst for any team. |
