For the BMW
WilliamsF1 team after having seen both drivers set encouraging times in the
third practice session things did not go as well in the final practice. Mark
Webber was in seventh but Nick Heidfeld had dropped down the order to be in
thirteenth.
The fourth practice session for the Turkish Grand Prix would see nearly ten
minutes pass before a car would take to the track. Then we would see
Monteiro, Trulli, Klein, both Ralf and Michael Schumacher, and Raikkonen all come out
for their installation laps. Both Doornbos and Karthikeyan would also take to
the track. Eventually we would also see both Renault's out, joined by both
BAR's.
The first driver to go fastest was Red Bull's Christian Klein with a
1m:28.835. Behind him was Ralf with a 1m:29.413. Next was Monteiro followed by
Doornbos, Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, and Trulli. Nick Heidfeld was also out on the
circuit.
Ralf would go fastest with a time of 1m:28.281, with Michael next. But Kimi
would go fastest with a time of 1m:26.978. Fisichella was now in third and
Montoya fourth. Michael was down in fifth. Klein would jump into second with
a time of 1m:27.919 and Trulli was now third with a 1m:28.062. But Alonso was
now in second with a 1m:27.389. Michael was to have a spin in what is
turning out to be a very difficult weekend for him.
But continuing his performance from the previous session Montoya would go
fastest with a1m:26.748. Nick was in sixth with 1m:28.018. Button and Sato
were in ninth and tenth. Fisichella was now in third with a 1m:27.240 just
ahead of team-mate Alonso. Mark Webber's first lap would see him in fifth
with a 1m:27.597.
With just over twenty five minutes remaining the top ten was Montoya,
Raikkonen, Fisichella, Button, Alonso, Sato, Webber, Coulthard, Klein, and
Heidfeld. Button would move into second with a 1m:26.922, to be just 0.174
behind Juan Pablo. Barrichello was down in seventeenth with a 1m:33.402,
6.654 seconds off the pace. The Toyota's of Trulli and Ralf Schumacher were in
eleventh and twelfth. Michael was in thirteenth. Rubens would improve his
time, a 1m:28.813, but was now only in fifteenth.
With twenty minutes left in the session there was only a handful of cars out
on the track, including the Renault of Alonso. He would improve his time,
1m:27.317, but remained in sixth behind Sato. With just over fifteen minutes
remaining Mark had inly completed three laps and Nick five. It was plain to
see that they were limiting the mileage on their BMW engines which were seeing
their second race weekend.
Ralf was now in ninth with a 1m:27.864. He would improve to now be in
seventh with a 1m:27.556. Mark and Nick were now in eighth and eleventh.
Nick would spin off the track late in the session as he was attempting a
quick lap.
It would be
Jenson Button who would set a new fastest lap time, 1m:26.559, to move ahead
of Montoya and Raikkonen. Massa was now in tenth with a 1m:27.829 pushing
Nick down one place. Mark was back out on the track and he would improve his
time to now be in seventh, 1m:27.335, with five minutes left in the session.
There would be the usual flood of cars returning to the track in the final
minutes. On his first lap Kimi would move back to the top of the times with
a 1m:26.286. Alonso was now in third with a 1m:26.627. Kimi would improve
his time with a 1m:26.120, with just over a minute left. With the end of the
session the top ten was Raikkonen from Button, Alonso, Montoya, Fisichella,
Sato, Webber, Ralf Schumacher, Coulthard and Massa. Nick was down in
thirteenth. |
