| In the lead up to the French
Grand Prix BMW WilliamsF1 driver Ralf Schumacher, in an interview for F1™
Racing, has spoken out about what he considers to be unfair treatment by the
British media in anything that involves himself and his brother Michael.
Ralf
said: "The British press are very anti-Schumacher - anti-Michael and
anti-me. Okay, maybe not all of you - but most. Whatever team-mate I've had
in my career, Giancarlo (Fisichella), Damon (Hill), Alex (Zanardi), Jenson
(Button), Juan (Pablo Montoya), you always say he's the one, better than
me."
Ralf added that he felt that the drive for the British media to be so anti
Schumacher is because of the fact that it has been some time since Britain
has had a champion.
Ralf added: "Maybe you're all frustrated that you haven't got a real
champion to get excited about. Look I don't want it to sound arrogant but
I'm German. And German journalists will always be more important to me than
any other journalists."
Since the start of his career in Formula One with Jordan Ralf feels that the
name 'Schumacher' has not been something that has helped his career. In 1997
he had to contend with the anti Schumacher feeling that existed as a result
of the on-track struggle between his brother Michael and Damon Hill.
"In 1997, my brother's rivalry with Damon Hill was still in the memory. Even
today, we both get a pretty poor reception from the English crowd. People
thought I should not be in Formula One, but I have shown now that I belong
here."
The British media will most likely challenge his assertion that they have
been anti Schumacher. It will be interesting to the response that Ralf's
comments generates. |
