| The 2002 European Grand Prix
would see both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers produce less than satisfactory results
after their excellent qualifying performances. At least Ralf Schumacher was
able to finish the race in fourth position but Juan Pablo Montoya retired
after hitting McLaren's David Coulthard.
Now
Juan Pablo has come out blaming the poor performance of his car on a
collision that took place between himself and his team-mate. The start of
the race would see the WilliamsF1 cars touch and it was claimed by Juan
Pablo that this affected the handling of his car, ruining his race and any
chance of a good result.
Juan Pablo believes that Ralf
acted inappropriately when he pushed his way into the lead at the start of
the race.
In an interview with Autosport magazine Juan Pablo said: "If I had not moved
off the line, it's possible both of our races would have ended there. I went
and had a word with the team after the race because if you are racing with
your team-mate, you have got to think a little bit about the other guy.
"I could have gone out wide, pushed him into the gravel and spun him out. We
need to be a bit more careful in that respect.
"You could argue that he did a better job than me because he got ahead but
he did hit me. The impact was small but it bent my steering arm. From then
on I went backwards. The car felt horrible."
Hopefully these remarks are not the start of any breakdown in the
relationship that the two drivers have been able to develop as team-mates. |
