The BMW WilliamsF1 team would see their drivers finish in 3rd & 8th after the final Hungarian practice session. Pizzonia would again lead his more experienced team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya. Will Antonio be able to deliver in qualifying is the big question, after his poor qualifying in Germany.

For the
BMW WilliamsF1 team the final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix
would see Antonio Pizzonia and Juan Pablo Montoya finish the session in
fourth and eighth positions respectively. Both drivers certainly seem to
have the pace. Juan Pablo would come out in the closing moments of the
session and set the fastest first sector time only to abort his run. The
final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix would see the teams
and drivers make their final preparations for this afternoon's
qualifying. The first driver out would be Jaguar's Mark Webber. He would
set a time of 1m:22.954. BAR's Jenson Button would move into first
position with a lap of 1m:22.773.The session would see most drivers come out early, with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher quickly getting it a groove with a lap time of 1m:20.714, to go fastest. Early in the session Sauber's Felipe Mass would go off the circuit with what appeared to be an engine failure. The marshals were required to put out a small fire. This will see him having to lose ten grid positions so he may not qualify his car preferring to start from the rear of the grid. Rubens Barrichello would move up to be second with a time of 1m:20.842. Michael would improve on his time with a 1m:20.029. Toyota's Ricardo Zonta was trying to impress Toyota management, after replacing Cristiano Da Matta, by moving into third with a 1m:20.960. But his position would be taken by Renault's Jarno Trulli as the Italian would move into third with a lap of 1m:20.871. Early pace setter McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen was out and his first lap would see him just over a half a second away from Schumacher's time, a 1m:20.614. BAR's Takuma Sato would quickly take over the third position with a 1m:20.363. With over half the session completed Juan Pablo would move up the order with a time of 1m:20.480. Renault's Fernando Alonso would set an identical time to Sato, a 1m:20.363. But it would be WilliamsF1's Antonio Pizzonia who would set the quickest time, the first in the 1m:19 second bracket, with a time of 1m:19.913. This was a great performance from the Brazilian. But his time at the top would be short as Rubens Barrichello would surpass his time by .145 seconds, a 1m:19.768, to move into first. Button would set the fastest second sector time, but he would finish in fourth with a time of 1m:20.039. With just under ten minutes left in the session Juan Pablo would set the fastest first sector but he would abort his lap. Maybe he was seeing just how fast he can go prior to making his qualifying run. In the closing moments of the session Jenson Button was able to set the quickest lap of the weekend, a 1m:19.558. Michael would move into second with a 1m:19.747. |
