In an encouraging start to the weekend the BMW WilliamsF1 team would finish 3rd & 5th after Friday practice in Germany. Juan Pablo would still lead team-mate Pizzonia but now both drivers were near the top of the times. Both drivers would have moments during the second session.

For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the second Friday practice session would see
both Juan Pablo and Antonio improve on their times seeing them in third
and fifth positions in the times. This was a very encouraging start to
the weekend. Been the home Grand Prix of engine supplier BMW coming away
with a good result this weekend has even more importance.
With BAR’s Anthony Davidson the pace setter from the earlier Friday
practice the second practice session would see Toyota's Cristiano da
Matta and Olivier Panis head out on the track. They were quickly
followed by others and Da Matta would be the first to set a time of
1m:19.989 followed by Panis with a 1m:18.124.
Davidson would move into fourth place with a 1m:15.576, while
team-mate Button would move into third place with a time of 1m:15.379.
With about fifteen minutes of the session left to run Juan Pablo would
set the third best time of the afternoon, a time of 1m:15.167. In the
middle order the Jaguar's of Mark Webber and Christian Klein were in
eleventh and fourteenth respectively. Like Jaguar Toyota were also
struggling with their new TF104B with both da Matta and Panis down near
the bottom of the times. |

The
only moment during the session was a moment for Juan Pablo at Turn
twelve early in the session. For Antonio his time certainly shows that
he has the pace this weekend, whether it will result in a good race
performance is yet to be seen but the signs are encouraging.
For Renault their fortunes would improve when Alonso jumps up into
fourth position with a lap of 1m:15.677. Kimi Raikkonen would certainly
show that the new McLaren was a major improvement by taking first
position with a stunning time of 1m:15.045, just one tenth off the
circuit record. With this the top eight were Raikkonen, Michael
Schumacher, Pizzonia, Sato, Alonso, Barrichello, Button and Davidson.
But Michael Schumacher would return things back to there normal
positions when he resumed his place at the top pf the times with a
1m:15.001.
