FIA inconsistent

BMW WilliamsF1 driver Ralf Schumacher has been involved in several incidents with other drivers so far in 2004, Takuma Sato and Fernando Alonso, that have brought him to the attention of the race stewards and the FIA.

At the San Marino Grand Prix Ralf would be involved in a coming together with Renault's Fernando Alonso. The Renault driver was to make a passing move on Ralf by going down the inside of Ralf's car, which would see the two cars touch. After the race, even no penalty was imposed, Ralf was criticised for his part in the incident.

Now it is the turn of Ralf to question the basis on which the FIA levelled their criticism. He would join team-mate Montoya who had previously questioned the FIA's consistency in imposing penalties after an incident involving himself and Michael Schumacher.

Juan Pablo's criticism came about when he felt that he had been pushed wide onto the grass by Michael as he tried to pass Michael on the outside, during the opening lap of the same race at Imola. He felt that some action should have been taken against Michael for his driving even though he knew that no such action was likely to take place.

Ralf also found the FIA's position on what is accepted as hard to understand.

Ralf said: ''What I don't understand, is that afterwards Charlie Whiting told me I need to give space if they dive in and they're still behind me.''

He added: ''So all someone has to do is dive in and I've got to give way?''
