| The BMW
WilliamsF1 team would secure second and sixth on the grid for the
Spanish Grand Prix. Juan Pablo is seconds. After his excellent fast time
in the opening qualifying session it must have been frustrating to again
see his main rival Michael Schumacher secure pole.
Minardi's
Zolt Baumgartner was first out and would finish with a time of
1m:21.470. Team-mate Bruni was 1.4 seconds up after the second sector,
finishing with a time of 1m:19.817 which was 1.6 seconds quicker than
his team-mate. Jordan's Pantano would run wide in the esses and go onto
the gravel. He would finish with a time of 1m:20.607 to go behind Bruni.
Jaguar's Christian Klien was next out. he was half a second up after
sector one, 1.5 seconds after sector two, to finish with a time of
1m:17.812 which would probably see him outside the top ten.
Jordan's Nick Heidfeld
was out on track. 321kmh from the Ford engine which almost equals
Montoya's top speed of 323kmh. He was 0.3 up on Klien in sector one. He
would be 0.091 up in sector two. He would move to the top of the times
just ahead of Klein.
Alonso was next, followed by Da Matta, Barrichello, Coulthard and
Button. Alonso would start his flying lap and he would be almost a
second up through sector two. he would set a time of 1m:16.422. Toyota's
Cristiano Da Matta was next out and was 0.2 down on Alonso after sector
one. 0.425 down through sector two and he would cross the line with a
time that was good enough for second second by six tenths from Alonso.
Ferrari's
Rubens Barrichello was out and was 0.089 up on Alonso after sector one,
0.115 up in sector two. He would take provisional pole by 0.150 from
Alonso. McLaren's David Coulthard would move into third, 0.35 down on
Barrichello. BAR's Jenson Button would commence his lap and was four
tenths up in sector one. But in sector two he would run wide onto the
grass at the Campsa corner losing time. He would finish in sixth.
Team-mate Sato was next out and he was four tenths up on Barrichello in
sector one. He would be 0.623 up after sector two and would go on to set
the fastest time with a lap of 1m:15.809.
Michael Schumacher was next out and with a speed of 323kmh down the main
straight he would be 0.08 up in sector one. He would be 0.454 up in
sector two and would finish with a stunning time of 1m:15.022. McLaren's
Kimi Raikkonen was out on his lap but was 0.469 down after sector one.
He would be 1.4 seconds behind after sector two and would only manage a
time good enough for seventh, 2.4 seconds off Michael's time.
Jaguar's Mark Webber would be 0.989 down on Michael's time after sector
two. He would finish with a time of 1m:16.514, fifth ahead of Coulthard.
Toyota's Olivier Panis would start his lap and was half a second down
after sector one. He would finish in an excellent fourth. Next was
Renault's Jarno Trulli who would finish in an excellent third with a
time of 1m:16.144.
Ralf
was next out and was 0.398 down after sector one. Things did not improve
as he was 0.957 down after sector two. He would have to settle for fifth
with a time of 1m:16.293. Sauber's Felipe Massa could only manage
fifteenth. Like his team-mate Fisichella would struggle with his car and
would only manage eleventh with a time of 1m:17.444. Juan Pablo was the
last driver who could beat Michael. But he would be 0.346 down after
sector one. He would lose further time in sector two to finish his lap
with a time good enough for second.
But Michael was six
tenths ahead of the WilliamsF1 driver. So Michael Schumacher would
secure his fifth consecutive pole position at Barcelona and his 59th
career pole position. Takuma Sato would be third ahead of Trulli and
Barrichello. Ralf would finish in sixth position. It will be interesting
to see how tomorrow's race turns out. |
