| After a
San Marino Grand Prix which did not produce the results that the BMW
WilliamsF1 team had been working hard to achieve, the team would see Juan
Pablo and Ralf finish third and seventh, the team was quickly back testing
trying to close the gap to their rivals Ferrari prior to the next Grand Prix
in Spain.
The
team commenced a three day test at Silverstone. The first day would see test
drivers Antonio Pizzonia and Marc Gene present and both testing the FW26. By
the end of the day Pizzonia had set the fastest time this year in testing at
the Silverstone circuit.
Pizzonia would set a lap time of 1m:18.275, which would beat the previous
fastest time, 1m:19.542, set by BAR's Takuma Sato earlier this year. His lap
was also faster than the official track record, set the Juan Pablo Montoya
in 2002.
Pizzonia would complete 101 laps, focusing on testing of various set-ups
with the FW26. He would also test new aerodynamic parts for the car. In
conjunction with this he would test tyres, three tyre compounds, for
Michelin.
Marc would set a fastest lap time of 1m:18.615. He would complete 72 laps.
He would finish second in the times. Marc would also work through various
chassis setups and tyre testing for Michelin.
Wednesday will see Ralf Schumacher joining Marc Gené. |
