| The start
of the 2004 Australian Grand Prix would see Juan Pablo struggle to defend
his position after making a poor start. As a result of this he would find
himself in a situation where he would take to the grass losing several
places.
With
the banning of launch control it onus is now on the drivers to get the car
off the start line, hopefully without any problems. Once the car is moving
the traction control systems kick in helping the driver but up to this point
it is up to them to make the perfect start.
Juan Pablo commented on the BMW WilliamsF1 web site regarding the issue of
starts. He said: "The clutch was very cold and it works better with higher
temperatures. So next time when I do some burnouts on the dummy lap, if I
slip the clutch we should be okay."
Ralf Schumacher added his thoughts regarding the issue of race starts. He
added: “Well, it could be an advantage because starting is not going to be
as consistent as it used to be. On the other hand it is something the driver
is aware of, another mistake we could make and not be able to blame it on
the team, so it makes our life more difficult.” |
