Ralf confident of beating Michael

BMW WilliamsF1 Team driver Ralf Schumacher, who along with team-mate Montoya, is turning out to be the only serious challenger to Ferrari's Michael Schumacher. Ralf still believes that he can challenge his brother but how his FW24 chassis performs will have a major bearing on how his fight with Michael turns out.

Ralf & Juan PabloRalf knows that on the days when his chassis performs well that race victories are well within his grasp. But Ralf admits that the way the Ferrari team with his brother Michael pushing them along they will be hard to beat.

In a recent interview for the French magazine Ralf said: "The main objective is to win the Championship, not to finish in second place. But if winning proves to be impossible, then I hope to be able to obtain second. At the beginning of the season we saw that the opportunity was there and as long as it exists, we will be able to fight for the title.

The Ferrari F2002 is brilliant at the moment but I am certain that if BMW Williams succeed in producing the same package, Juan or I can beat Michael. I have already won against him with a package that was weaker so I do not believe that that is a problem. There are some drivers who are very close in performances; the only advantage that Michael possesses at present is all his experience and the fact that he has the best team around him."

With the Austrian Grand Prix only days away and the first practice session on Friday already run Ralf's confidence of taking the fight up to Michael may have taken a bit of a slump but as Ralf said they still have a lot of work to do and based on past races the WilliamsF1 team certainly performs well come qualifying and the race.
