| The
second Saturday practice at Monza would see Juan Pablo Montoya set the
fastest time with test driver Marc gene and excellent third. The two
WilliamsF1 drivers would sandwich Ferrari's Michael Schumacher.
McLaren's
Kimi Raikkonen first out onto the and he would quickly set a competitive
time, a lap of 1m:23.183. He was joined by Jaguar's mark Webber and
Toyota's Olivier Panis. Webber would move into second.
Renault's Jarno Trulli would pass Raikkonen and move to the top of the
times, while team-mate Alonso was an early third. Panis had already
covered five laps after being forced to sit out most of the earlier
practice session. Both WilliamsF1 drivers would take to the track, joined
by both Ferrari's.
Sauber's Frentzen would be fifth while Toyota's Christiano da Matta was
now in an excellent fourth. McLaren's David Coulthard was in fifth with
about twenty minutes of the session run.
Michael Schumacher would continues his excellent form by claiming the
fastest time on his first flying lap. Barrichello would move into fourth
on his first run in the second Ferrari. For Olivier Panis he would have a
moment in his Toyota as he would leave the track and fly across the grass
before returning to the pits.
Marc Gene would begin his first quick lap finishing in ninth. Michael
Schumacher would return to the pits while team-mate Rubens would move in
to second. For Juan Pablo he was still in the pits after completing just
three laps. He would return to the track and move into seventh.
With just over fifteen minutes of the session run Kimi Raikkonen would set
the fastest time, improving in the first and last sectors. Panis would
move into sixth behind BAR's Jenson Button.
But it would be Juan Pablo who would take the lead by over half a second.
Marc gene would also improve moving up to fifth. Juan Pablo was the only
one under 1m:22. McLaren's David Coulthard had only covered three laps and
was only fourteenth.
Barrichello would go out on a quick lap but would be 0.3 behind after
sector one, losing another 0.4 in sector two. Team-mate Michael would
return to the track ending just one tenth behind Juan Pablo. Raikkonen was
now in third but Coulthard would improve to be fifth just one tenth ahead
of Gene. With just over three minutes to run in the session Juan Pablo was
on a very quick lap with a 26.0 at sector one, but he would abort the lap
and return to his garage.
After an encouraging start to the session Toyota's Olivier Panis would
stop his car on the track with engine failure. Panis's car would be in a
difficult position bringing out the red flag. The marshals would have a
job cleaning up the oil from the blown Toyota V10. Panis was in seventh
prior to his engine failure. Barrichello would improve but would remain in
fourth. Renault's Trulli and Alonso were eighth and tenth.
The session was restarted with just three minutes left to run, but only a
few drivers would take to the track. One such driver was Marc Gene and in
the final minutes he would cross the line in third, and excellent job done
by the Spaniard.
So with the session ending it would be BMW WilliamsF1's Juan Pablo Montoya
who would be fastest prior to this afternoons qualifying, backed up very
well by his team-mate Gene. |
