| Bridgestone claims having proof | |
| In an
announcement made at the Monza test Bridgestone's Director of Motorsport,
Hiroshi Yasukawa, said that he had proof that the Michelin front tyre treads
were wider than what is allowed by the regulation. "We have the proof, because the front tyre contact patch of the Williams is 286 mm, 16 more than what is allowed by the rules. Personally, I was suspicious, but we didn't say anything because we didn't have any proof. We would have reacted before that but we didn't have any proof until now," said Yasukawa. As for Michelin they are currently supplying their teams with a new front tyre at Monza. This new tyre has a narrower tread. It looks like Michelin will have supplies of this tyre ready for the Italian Grand Prix. Michelin Director Pierre Dupasquier said: "Our people have been working 24 hours a day since last Wednesday and new tyres are being tested in Monza as we speak. For anyone that knows anything about the tyre world, to do what we’ve just managed is a huge achievement." |
