The BMW WilliamsF1 would dominate the Friday qualifying session for the German GP, with Ralf and Juan Pablo 1st & 2nd. It was a day where we would see the Michelin supplied teams head the times, but even so the 3rd placed driver, Jarno Trulli, was over half a second behind Ralf.

| The
opening qualifying session, on Friday, for the 2003 German Grand Prix
would see the top two spots occupied by the BMW WilliamsF1 team. In a
session that was dominated by the Michelin supplied teams Ralf Schumacher
would go quickest followed by team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya. Juan Pablo
would finish 0.246 behind Ralf,
with both drivers coming away happy with their efforts and looking forward
to Saturday's qualifying.
Championship leader Michael
Schumacher was first out in the first qualifying session, followed by Kimi
Raikkonen. Michael's time was quickly passed by Raikkonen. Then it was the
turn of the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers, with Montoya more than six tenths
faster than Raikkonen, with a time of 1m:14.673. Ralf would cut another
two tenths off Juan Pablo's time to take pole. David Coulthard continued to struggle with his qualifying efforts and again was down the order. He was 1.130 seconds slower than Ralf. For Jarno Trulli he would
beat his team-mate Alonso, gaining time in the final sector, to finish
third. Jaguar's mark Webber would move into fourth pushing Alonso down the
order. For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the day was the best way to start the weekend with both drivers producing excellent runs bringing the team a one two at Hockenheim. For Saturday Juan Pablo and Ralf will start the qualifying session nineteenth and twentieth. |

With
Michelin supplied
drivers occupying eight of the top ten positions it was apparent that the
temperature at Hockenheim was helping the Michelin teams. On Friday the
track temperatures 38 degrees. If this continues over the weekend we may
have the sight of Ralf winning this race.
Barrichello
would be fastest in the first sector but he would lose time in the second.
In the end, he would move into fourth. He would end up almost a second
down on Ralf's time. Next would be Renault's Fernando Alonso completing
his lap in third, but he was still more than seven tenths down.
