| The final
day of testing for the BMW WilliamsF1 team would again see the team at two
different locations, ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. Ralf Schumacher was
at Silverstone, while Marc Gené was at the Monza circuit. The team will
conclude its programme with straight line testing at Silverstone tomorrow.
At
Silverstone Ralf would set the fastest time with a lap time of 1m:19.790,
completing 123 laps. His time was way ahead of his rivals from teams such as
Renault and Jordan. Ralf continue to focus on the set-up for the Canadian
Grand Prix at Montreal.
For Marc his day was spent
concentrating on setting up the chassis of the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25. Moreover
he did some tyre testing for the race at Monza. Marc would have a minor
technical problem but he would still finish the day with the fourth fastest
time with a lap of 1m:22.976.
Sam Michael, WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer, commented on the three
days of testing by saying: "We finalised a busy programme at Silverstone
today with extensive tyre testing and set-up work for Montreal, as well as
engine endurance running for BMW. In all we managed to complete 640kms of
useful work in a single day, and over the course of this test and our
simultaneous programme at Monza, we have made some useful progress for
Montreal and beyond."
Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director, ADDED HIS THOUGHTS: "We have been
testing at two different circuits this week. In Monza, the focus was on
preparation work for Montreal, set-up work for the Italian Grand Prix and
general tyre development. In Italy we were also working on the engine's
set-up and development. During these tests we have been able to learn plenty
from two defects which will assist with future development of the engine.
The Silverstone test was mainly concerned with chassis development and
set-up work for the British Grand Prix. In summary we have had two intensive
and positive tests." |
