| The final
day of testing for the BMW WilliamsF1 team at Silverstone would see only
Marc Gene working through the teams test programme. Juan Pablo Montoya was
not present, taking the day off after his heavy crash the day before.
The final day would see the
Silverstone circuit soaked with rain. The days testing would focus chassis
setup with further work on tyre testing and gearbox improvements. The
testing was in preparation for the next Grand prix in Spain.
Marc Gené would set his best time of the
day with a lap of 1m:23.016. He would complete seventy eight laps. The team
had planned to conduct a race simulation but this was abandoned.
After three days of testing the team fairly
confident of a positive result in the Spanish Grand Prix next weekend.
WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer Sam Michael commented on the three days
of testing:
“Although we progressed through the test program at Silverstone this week it
was hampered by Juan-Pablo’s crash yesterday afternoon and by bad weather
today. However, we have still learnt a great deal and tested some new parts
ready for the Spanish Grand Prix next week. Marc finished off the test today
by verifying some wet and dry tyre choices for Michelin”.
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen added:
“The test has been focussed on specific set-up work for the Silverstone
circuit as well as on intense tyre testing. With regards to the engine, we
have been working on further improvements of the traction control as it is
now assured that we will be allowed to use this feature for the entire 2003
season. For today, the final day of the Silverstone test, a race simulation
had been scheduled but was hampered and interrupted by changing weather
conditions and heavy rain”. |
