San Marino GP Friday Practice
For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the San Marino Grand Prix weekend got off to an encouraging start with both Ralf and Juan Pablo setting the fastest two times of the opening Friday practice.

Ralf SchumacherThe session was run under sunny conditions and prior to cars taking to the track there was a brief ceremony on the pit straight where Fisichella and Raikkonen exchanged trophies for the revised Brazilian Grand Prix result.

With Ralf setting the fastest time of the session, a lap time of 1m:21.335, and Juan Pablo just under one tenth of a second behind his team-mate both drivers were a considerable margin ahead of third placed Jaguar driver Mark Webber.

McLaren's David Coulthard was fourth quickest, despite an two off track moments, ahead of Renault's Fernando Alonso. The opening session was very much a Michelin dominated affair with the best Bridgestone runner been BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button in sixth. Sauber's Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Renault's Jarno Trulli finished in seventh and eighth respectively.

For the Ferrari team both drivers struggled during the session with Michael Schumacher only managing tenth fastest time. Rubens Barrichello was one place better in ninth. Both drivers were to make errors while out on the track both having spins. Michael was not able to get much track time spending a larger amount of time with his car in his garage.

Juan Pablo MontoyaOther drivers to have off track moments included Jaguar's Antonio Pizzonia who went off the circuit at turn seven, finishing the session in twelfth, and Minardi's Justin Wilson also stopped on the circuit after completing just four laps, finish last in the times.

For Brazilian Grand Prix winner Jordan's Fisichella he would finish in eleventh while team-mate Ralph Firman was down in fifteenth. Firman was to to avoid a collision with the barriers after leaving the circuit.

For Jacques Villeneuve he would have to abandoned his BAR-Honda at the opening corner after encountering mechanical problems. In a similar fashion to Coulthard Toyota's Cristiano da Matta made a similar error at turn twelve. He would finish in sixteenth one place ahead of team-mate Panis.

The Friday qualifying session will see McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen be the first out in what will determine the running order for Saturday’s crucial one-shot qualifying.
