On the
final day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit it would be test driver Marc
Gene who would set the fastest time, which would be the fastest time of the
week for the FW25. Again
the team would concentrate on setup work for the San Marino Grand Prix. The
previous three days had seen Ralf Schumacher carry out the testing but on
this final day it would be Olivier Beretta who joined Marc. Olivier had
previously tested for the team, on this occasion he would finish last
amongst the drivers but this was not surprising..WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer Sam Michael commented on the four days of testing by saying: "This week we tested at the rebuilt Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France. It is a fantastic circuit with great facilities. Marc and Ralf started off the test and Olivier took over from Ralf on the last day. We had wet and dry weather and managed to complete a lot of testing on tyres, setup, TC, brakes and engines. We have found two good tyre compounds that suit our car to take to Imola GP, so we have taken a step forward there as well." BMW Motorsport Director Dr Mario Theissen added: "After in Brazil we already used the latest engine specification of the BMW P83 in the race, we now have been concentrating on the engine's set-up in Paul Ricard. However, the test was focussed on further developments of the chassis and tyres, which we have supported." McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen was second quickest. He was joined by McLaren test drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Alexander Wurz. Jenson Button was sixth quickest with the BAR 005. |
