Ambitious goals unrealistic

The BMW WilliamsF1 team had an demanding series of test sessions over the winter break while they put the teams new FW25 through the early stages of its development programme. During this time there has been much discussion as to the performance of the new car, with even Ralf Schumacher questioning its performances.

Ralf SchumacherBut now the team is preparing for the first practice and qualifying sessions for the 2003 Australian Grand Prix. It would appear that Ralf has had time to take stock of the new car and when questioned as to its whether it is an improvement over the 2002 FW24 Ralf responded by saying:  “The new car is faster, otherwise we would use the old car again.”

When questioned regarding his views on his chances in the opening race of the season Ralf was cautious in his reply. He indicated that the team is working hard to ensure that success comes quickly.

Ralf added: "Honestly, I can’t really judge where we’re at. Ambitious goals would be unrealistic. But I’ll work hard so that we’ll have success as fast as possible".

For WilliamsF1 Technical Director Patrick Head his views of the new FW25 were much more positive. Patrick said: “We consider that the FW25 will provide a much stronger basis to mount a challenge than was the case in 2002.”
