Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice for the 2022 Spanish GP would see Nyck de Vries
replace Alex Albon for this session as part of the FIA requirement in
running inexperienced drivers. Vettel with an upgraded Aston Martin
would be first out followed by a number of cars including both Williams. The
last car to come out was Stoll with a mix of hard and medium tyres being
used. As more times were set Verstappen would set a 1m:23.163 followed by
Leclerc and Ricciardo. The Williams were currently 11th and 13th. Verstappen
would set a 1m:22.693 still followed by Leclerc while the Williams pair were
now 11th and 14th. As Verstappen found time with a 1m:22.143 the Williams
pair were 13th and 14th separated by 1.3s. This would become 13th and 16th
with thirty five minutes remaining ion the session.
Verstappen had set a 1m:21.876 using the hard tyre followed now by Leclerc,
Russell, Ricciardo, Gasly, Sainz, Alonso, Norris, Hamilton, and Tsunoda
tenth. Drivers started to return on the soft tyre and it would be Sainz with
a 1m:19.907 who went quickest. Norris was now second followed by Tsunoda all
on the soft tyre. The Williams pair were currently eighth and tenth. Russell
would move up to second followed by Hamilton but Verstappen was now second.
The Williams pair were currently 10th and 11th with just over twenty minutes
remaining in the session. Leclerc on the soft would go quickest with a
1m:19.828 from Sainz, Verstappen, Russell, Alonso, Hamilton, Norris, Gasly,
Ricciardo, and Tsunoda tenth. The Williams pair were now 13th and 14th.
More driver would start to return for their final runs with ten minutes
remaining. The Williams pair were now 14th and 15th. But this would become
18th and 19th as more drivers completed soft tyre runs. As the session drew
to a close the track was very busy as drivers completed longer runs. With
the end of the session the order was Leclerc from Sainz, Verstappen,
Russell, Alonso, Hamilton, Norris, Gasly, Ricciardo and Tsunoda tenth. The
Williams pair would finish in 18th and 19th as the drivers were allowed to
complete practice starts on the grid. Very difficult to assess the session
for Williams Racing finishing so far down the order but encouraging to see
Nyck finish ahead of Nick.
Nyck de Vries:
Nyck would come out early running on the hard tyre and would set a 1m:27.438
to be briefly quickest. He would drop to 12th. He would improve with a
1m:26.435 to be 13th right behind his team-mate. He would drop to 14th
having completed five laps. A 1m:25.601 from Nyck but he would remain 14th.
He would complete an eleven lap run currently 16th. Nyck would return on the
soft tyre and would set a 1m:22.936 to be fourth. He would drop to eighth
then down to tenth as he pitted after a seven lap run. With fifteen minutes
remaining Nyck would return again on the soft tyre. He would improve
slightly with a 1m:22.920 remaining 13th. He would drop to 16th and would
pit after a five lap run. This would become 18th as the session ended
pitting after a five lap run.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would set a 1m:25.594 to be currently fifth dropping to seventh. He
would drop to 12th but with a 1m:24.345 was 10th but even with a 1m:24.205
he was now 11th. he would drop to 13th and would pit after a nine lap run.
Nicholas had complained about his new seat saying he could not feel the car,
"something different I just don't know what." Nick would also return on the
soft tyre and would set a 1m:23.011 to be sixth. This would become tenth
then 11th as he continued his run on the soft tyre. He would pit after a
seven lap run. Nicholas would return this time running on the medium
currently 15th. He would dropt o 19th as he completed his run on the medium
tyre completing ten laps. |
