Team Summary:
On what was a wet day the Friday practice session for the Emilia Romagna
Grand Prix would get underway. There would be only one practice session on
the Friday as this race would see the Sprint format run so qualifying would
take place later on the Friday. Bottas would be the first car out using the
full wet tyre. He would be followed by both Haas cars and then both a flow
of drivers all on the wet tyre. The first of the Williams would come out
also on the full wet tyre. Bottas had set a 1m:43.277 but Verstappen would
move ahead with a 1m:37.247 followed by Bottas and Gasly. But lots of
drivers were having issues seeing spins and off track moments. Both Williams
drivers had left the track but they were not alone.
Leclerc was now second followed by Magnussen. But it would all change with
Verstappen even quicker with a 1m:36.158 now followed by Sainz. Gasly was
third followed by Tsunoda and Perez but just as quickly Leclerc would go
fastest with a 1m:35.629 followed by Sainz and Verstappen. Leclerc would
have the second of his spins as the track started to clear after the first
runs. Ocon had also left the track with thirty five minutes remaining. Perez
would go fastest with a 1m:35.476 from Leclerc and Sainz. Vettel would be
the first driver to come out on the intermediate tyre despite the fact that
the rain continued to fall. Both Williams drivers would return again on the
wet tyre.
Vettel on the intermediate tyre was now fourth and Stroll also on the same
tyre eighth. The Williams drivers were now 15th and 20th. Stroll would again
go off under braking as Norris went second on the intermediate tyre.
Magnussen would also go off while on the intermediate tyre currently in
eighth. With just under twenty minutes remaining more cars were on the
intermediate tyre as Sainz using these tyres set a 1m:32.606 to be quickest.
Perez was now second followed by Norris as the track started to dry. On the
inter Leclerc would go quickest with a 1m:32.512 from Sainz and now Vettel.
It was rapidly changing as Sainz again was quickest with a 1m:30.803
followed by Leclerc and now Magnussen.
Verstappen was now third followed by Magnussen, Vettel, Tsunoda, Schumacher,
Alonso, Ocon, and Perez. Both Williams drivers were back out this time using
the intermediate tyre. Leclerc was now quickest with a 1m:29.402 from Sainz
and Verstappen. The first intermediate times would see the Williams drivers
only just 19th and 20th. Norris would spin his car into the gravel seeing a
Red Flag but he was able to recover returning to his pit. The track would
empty as the Red Flag was cleared very quickly as quite a few drivers would
return with only a few minutes remaining including both Williams. With the
end of the session the order was Leclerc, Sainz, Verstappen, Magnussen,
Schumacher, Perez, Alonso, Vettel, Tsunoda, and Russell tenth. The Williams
pair were 17th and 20th which so hard to assess given the changeable
conditions. But next is qualifying it will be hard to determine where they
will end up. Also a lot depends on the impact of the weather in qualifying.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be first out using the full wet tyre and would have a moment
taking to the grass but was able to continue. He had set a 1m:42.846 to be
eighth, dropping to ninth. He would pit after just a three lap run. With
thirty two minutes remaining Alex would return again on the full wet tyre.
He would improve with a 1m:40.115 to be 18th dropping to 19th. Even with a
1m:38.917 would still see Alex 19th. But a 1m:38.194 would see Alex improve
to be 15th. He would pit after a six lap run. He would drop to 16th and then
18th as he returned this time using the intermediate tyre. He would set a
1m:38.194 to only be 19th. In his final run he would set a 1m:36.461 to be
17th and that is where he would end.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would come out also on the full wet but would run wide taking to
the gravel but he would recover but would pit without setting a time.
Nicholas would return again on the wet tyre looking to set his first time. A
slow 1m:47.280 would see Nicholas slowest. He would improve with a 1m:42.748
to remain slowest. A small improvement with a 1m:41.517 would see Nicholas
still slowest. He would also pit after a six lap run. Nicholas would return
this time using the intermediate tyre. He would set a 1m:39.698 to remain
slowest. With the end of the session he would remain slowest. |
