Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice would commence with Perez on the soft first out.
He would be joined by a mix of drivers all on the medium tyre. Bottas on the
medium would set the first time only to see Norris go quicker with a
1m:25.009. He would improve with a 1m:23.066 followed by Verstappen and
Stroll. The Williams pair were now 12th and 13th dropping to 13th and 15th.
At the front Verstappen on the soft would go quickest with a 1m:21.625
followed by Norris and Stroll. Leclerc was fourth followed by Hamilton,
Vettel, Ocon, and Ricciardo. But it would change with Leclerc moving into
second and Ocon third. Ricciardo and Norris were now fourth and fifth while
Williams would see their drivers 14th and 16th. Both Williams drivers were
on longer runs using the medium tyre.
Norris was now second ahead of Leclerc, and Ricciardo. Both Williams cars
would pit with the order now Verstappen quickest with a 1m:20.909 using the
soft followed by Norris, Leclerc, Ricciardo, Ocon, Tsunoda, Sainz, Vettel,
Alonso, and Hamilton tenth. The session would be Red Flagged in order to
allow marshals recover a part that had come off a car in the final corner.
The session would restart with thirty five minutes remaining. The Williams
pair were currently 16th and 18th as both returned for runs on the soft
tyre. Sainz had improved to be second with Vettel third followed by Perez
and Hamilton. More drivers were returning for soft tyre runs as Leclerc went
quickest with a 1m:20.825 followed by Verstappen and Sainz.
Sainz on the soft tyre would set a 1m:20.325 to go quickest ahead of Leclerc
and Verstappen. The Williams drivers would complete their soft tyre runs and
were currently 16th and 19th. Norris was now fourth followed by Ocon,
Hamilton, Ricciardo, Bottas, Tsunoda, and Perez tenth. Sainz would improve
with a 1m:19.806 as the session was again Red Flagged with Vettel's car
coming to a stop on the track with an engine failure. With under ten minutes
remaining both Williams cars would return again using the medium tyre. Perez
was now third followed by Verstappen and Norris with all three on the soft
tyre. At the front both Ferrari's were now on the hard tyre as the session
came to a close.
Both Williams cars were continuing their medium tyre runs as the session
ended. Sainz would remain quickest from Leclerc, Perez, Verstappen, Norris,
Ocon, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Alonso, and Bottas tenth. The Williams drivers
were both well off the pace of the front runners being well down the order
in 17th and 19th. How this will translate into FP2 is a big unknown.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be first out for Williams in the session running on the medium
tyre. A 1m:27.522 from Alex would see him currently 11th dropping to 13th. A
1m:25.268 would see Alex remain 13th. A 1m:24.483 from Alex would see him
now 11th. He would drop to 14th with twenty minutes of the session
completed. After a ten lap run Alex would pit and in his pit would drop to
16th. Alex had set a 1m:24.340 being 16th and even with a 1m:23.377 he would
remain in this position. But he would drop to 17th behind Gasly. But Alex
would improve with a 1m:22.754 to be 15th. After a five lap run he would pit
currently 16th. Alex would return for another medium tyre run as the session
drew to a close. With the end of the session he would complete seven laps on
the medium tyre ending the session in 17th.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow his team-mate out also using the medium tyre for his
first run. A slow
1m:32.014 from Nicholas would see him 12th. He would drop to 15th but a
1m:27.587 would see him move into 14th if only briefly. Even with a
1m:27.486 would see Nicholas 16th. This would become 17th even with an
improved 1m:26.615. He would pit after an eight lap run. Nicholas would return this
time on the soft tyre with just over thirty minutes remaining currently
18th. He would improve with a 1m:24.688 but remained 18th. He would again
improve with a 1m:24.016 but still remained 18th. After a seven lap run he would
pit currently 19th. Nicholas would comment on his brakes saying he had
barely any stopping power. Nicholas would complete seven laps on the medium
tyre as the session ended but even with a 1m:23.924 he would remain 19th. |
