Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2021 Qatar GP would commence with
a large number of drivers coming out on a mix of hard and medium tyres.
Mazepin would not be running due to the team having to change his chassis as
a result of FP1 damage. Giovinazzi would set a 1m:26.692 but Sainz would
move ahead with a 1m:26.364. A 1m:25.220 from Tsunoda on the medium only to
see Alonso quicker with a 1m:24.723 followed by Hamilton and Stroll.
Verstappen would go quickest with a 1m:24.285 but Tsunoda would move ahead
with a 1m:24.233. Bottas was now third followed by Hamilton and Alonso. The
Williams drivers weer now 17th and 19th. A 1m:23.743 from Verstappen to see
him again quickest with Tsunoda second followed now by Perez, Bottas,
Hamilton, Alonso and Stroll.
But Hamilton was now quickest with a 1m:23.604 but Bottas would move ahead
with a 1m:23.324. Hamilton was second followed by Verstappen, Perez,
Tsunoda, Alonso, Leclerc, Ricciardo, Stroll and Vettel. The Williams drivers
were down in 17th and 18th. On the soft tyre Ocon was now fifth ahead of
Tsunoda and Alonso. After their soft tyre runs the Williams pair were 13th
and 14th. Bottas was able to improve with a 1m:23.154 followed by Hamilton
and Stroll now third. Norris was able to improve to be third now seeing the
Williams pair 14th and 15th. Gasly would move up to second behind Bottas.
Hamilton was third followed by now Verstappen and Norris.
With twenty minutes remaining the Williams pair were still 16th and 18th and
has returned to their runs on the medium and hard tyres. Ten minutes
remaining and the Williams drivers continued on longer runs as we had Bottas
improving his quickest time with a 1m:23.148. Gasly was second followed by
Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, Stroll, Tsunoda, Perez, Vettel and Sainz
tenth. The session would end with the positions remaining the same. Compared
to their first Friday session the Williams drivers had switched positions
with George ahead of Nicholas. But they had dropped down the order somewhat
despite improvements in their lap times but their main rivals were close to
them in the order.
George Russell:
George would come out well after his team-mate this time on the medium tyre.
He would set a 1m:26.501 to be 16th dropping to 17th. A 1m:25.601 would see
George now 16th. He would pit after a six lap run. George had a lap time of
1m:25.366 deleted due to track limits at Turn 2. He would return for a soft
tyre run and would set a 1m:24.991 to be 12th. He was able to set a
1m:24.954 to now be 16th after a four lap run. George would return this time
on the medium tyre. He would complete a long run of 12 laps prior to pitting
ending his session despite completing a practice pit stop returning to the
track for one lap.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out for Williams in the second session. This time he
was on the hard time compared to the medium in the first session. On his
first lap it would be a slow 1m:40.024 with his next lap a 1m:28.443. A
1m:26.925 would see Nicholas 18th. He would pit after a five lap ruin.
Nicholas would return for a soft tyre run with forty minutes remaining in
the session. A 1m:25.209 would see Nicholas now 11th. He would drop to 14th
and as he pitted after a six lap run he would drop to 17th. With twenty
minutes remaining Nicholas would return on used hard tyres. He would
complete thirteen laps on the hard ending his session. |
