Team Summary:
As the second Friday practice session for the 2021 Russian GP got underway
there would be a stream of drivers coming out using all three tyre types.
The first time would come from Raikkonen but others would go quicker. On the
soft tyre Leclerc was quickest with a 1m:35.508 followed by Sainz and Gasly.
Bottas and Hamilton were second and third ahead of Perez and Verstappen.
Both Williams cars were out running on the soft tyre. Bottas and Leclerc
would swap fastest times but with a 1m:34.925 the Ferrari driver would remain
quickest. After their first laps the Williams drivers were 13th and 17th.
Alonso was now sixth with second through to sixth on the medium tyre.
Sainz would improve to be fifth also using the medium tyre. Now we would see
Ocon second using th3 soft tyre. But his Alpine team-mate Alonso would go
fastest with a 1m:34.762 followed by Leclerc and Ocon. The Williams drivers
were 13th and 15th as more drivers started to come out for soft tyre runs.
Ricciardo was stuck in his garage as the team worked on changing his power
unit. Verstappen would move up to second suing the soft tyre as the Williams
drivers were now 16th and 17th. More soft tyre times would be set and it
would now be Bottas quickest with am1:33.953 followed by Hamilton, Norris,
Verstappen, Alonso and Gasly sixth.
Ricciardo was now 17th now running on the hard tyre as we had both Williams
cars running on new soft tyres and would finish in 12th and 15th. Bottas was
now quickest from Hamilton, Norris, Verstappen, Sainz, Alonso, Gasly, Vettel,
Leclerc, and Perez tenth. The Williams drivers were now 12th and 15th with
just under thirty minutes left in the session. But Gasly would improve to be
third ahead of Norris. But Giovinazzi would crash his car at Turn nine going
backwards into the barrier taking off his rear wing. This would see the
session Red Flagged.
The session would restart and there was a rush of drivers coming out with
fifteen minutes remaining. Drivers were now on longer runs all except
Ricciardo who was on a soft tyre run. But Ricciardo could only manage 17th
as he pitted. Gasly would run wide and hit the kerb removing his front wing.
The session would finish with Bottas still quickest from Hamilton, Gasly,
Norris, Ocon, Verstappen, Sainz, Alonso, Vettel and Leclerc tenth. For
Williams they would finish in 13th and 16th. How much these times mean could
potentially come into play depending upon the reported
possibilities of wet weather hampering qualifying.
George Russell:
George would come out for his first run using the soft tyre. A 1m:36.977
would see George tenth. He would drop to 13th. After a five lap run George
would pit. In his garage he would drop to 16th. He would return on a new set
of soft tyres and with a 1m:35.094 to be 12th. He would pit after a three
lap run in what must have been a qualifying simulation. He would return on a
used set of soft tyres but would have to pit with a Red Flag. George would
return with the session restarted again on the used soft tyre. But he would
pit changing to the medium tyre. He was now 13th and after a nine lap run
would pit with the end of the session.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas was also to come out using the soft tyre. He would set a 1m:37.495
to be down the order in 16th. but with a 1m:37.083 would see Nicholas now
15th. Nicholas would also complete a five lap run prior to pitting. Back out
on a news et of soft tyres Nicholas was currently 18th. A 1m:35.411 would
see him 15th. Nicholas would pit after what was his qualifying simulation.
Nicholas had returned on used soft tyres but would have to pit immediately
with the Red Flag. For Nicholas he would return but was on the hard tyre
currently 16th. With the end of the session he would pit having completed
ten laps. |
