Team Summary:
Friday practice for the 2020 Russian GP had seen the Williams Racing drivers
Nicholas Latifi and George Russell finish in 15th and 16th. Now the Saturday
practice would allow the team their final chance to assess their
performances prior to qualifying. With the start of the session ether would
be no rush of drivers taking to the track. With five minutes completed both
McLaren's would leave the pit lane both on the medium tyre. Norris was to
set a 1m:36.423 to set the only lap time with ten minutes completed. More
drivers would start to leave the pits with several on soft tyres. This would
include both Mercedes drivers but it would be Ricciardo on the medium who
was now fastest with a 1m:35.672 from Norris and Grosjean. But Bottas would
set a 1m:35.183 to be quickest while team-mate Hamilton was only third.
Both Alfa Romeo's were out on the soft tyre joined by both Williams cars
also on the soft tyre. Raikkonen was now third ahead of Hamilton and
Magnussen. the track was now busy with drivers pout on a mix of medium and
soft tyres. Perez was now sixth on the medium but it would all change as
Bottas went quicker at the front with a 1m:34.289 followed by Gasly, Ocon,
and Kvyat. Ocon was on the medium tyre while at the front Hamilton would
move up to second behind Bottas. Gasly was third followed by Ocon, Kvyat,
Leclerc, Perez, Ricciardo, Stroll and Raikkonen tenth. After their first
runs the Williams Racing drivers were in 16th and 17th.
On the soft tyre Verstappen was now second as the track cleared with drivers
returning to the pits after their first runs. Twenty minutes remaining and
there was only a few cars on the track, those of Bottas and Ricciardo. As
drivers came out for their qualifying simulations Hamilton would set a
1m:33.279 to be fastest from Bottas and Verstappen. Vettel was fourth from
Leclerc and Gasly. After their next runs the Williams racing drivers were
11th and 14th with George 0.3 ahead of Nicholas. Six minutes remaining and
drivers continued to put in times with Sainz now third followed by Perez,
Verstappen, Vettel, Albon, Stroll, Kvyat and Leclerc tenth.
Ocon would move into fourth as both Williams drivers were now 13th and 15th
as the session drew to a close. The session would end with Hamilton still
quickest from Bottas, Sainz, Ocon, Perez, Verstappen, Vettel, Stroll, Kvyat,
and Ricciardo tenth. As for the Williams Racing drivers they would complete
their session in 13th and 15th. This session was again a positive one for
the Williams Racing Team as they prepare for qualifying. As far as the
Williams drivers are concerned it was a return to the status quo with George
ahead of Nicholas.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be out with just over twenty minutes remaining using the soft
tyre. His first lap was a 1m:35.940 to be sixth dropping to seventh. He
would drop down the order currently now 12th. This would become 15th.
Nicholas would also pit after a six lap run. He would return again on the
soft tyre but would pit after a single lap with no improvement in his time.
Nicholas would also return to his final run again on the soft tyre. Nicholas
was on an improved lap and would set a 1m:35.292 to be 10th but dropped to
11th. This would become 15th as he pitted after a four lap run. His session
would end in the pits.
George Russell:
George would close follow Nicholas out also on the soft tyre. He would
complete a very slow first lap time currently 18th. But he would improve
with a 1m:36.181 to be 13th but would drop to 16th. He would pit after a
four lap run. he would return for a further soft tyre run but would pit
after just three laps with out improving. With fifteen minutes remaining
George would return for a soft tyre run. George would set a 1m:34.979 to be
seventh. He would drop to tenth as other times were set. George would pit
after a six lap run and he would drop to 13th as his session came to an end. |
