Williams runs different setups on both cars

The recent Austrian Grand Prix had seen the Williams Martini team introduce several upgrades to their 2017 FW40 but after qualifying the team would be unsure as to what was working on the cars as the session had seen both Williams cars out in the first period.

The Williams A week later and the Williams team is at the British Grand Prix and is trying to resolve what had caused their poor performances in Austria. As a result the team has taken the decision to run the two Williams cars with different configurations in order to help with their analysis in terms of what of the upgrades is producing a performance gain. The different configurations will help the team find what does help with the balance of the car.

For the Friday practice sessions Lance Stroll will run with the old nose with the standard front wing support. But he will have the new barge boards and the new vertical conditioners.

Felipe Massa will be running the new nose, the new bargeboards but the old vertical conditioners with the three splitters on top of the side pods.

Massa said: "We had some changes in the car. I'm not saying with the package, but in the car, maybe we had a little bit different balance in the high speed corners that didn't work in the proper way.

"So we have some ideas for this track, and especially here it's a track where high speed is very important.

"We have some ideas that can maybe make the car a little bit more properly balanced in the high speed."
