Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice for the 2016 Italian GP would see both Williams
Martini drivers complete installation laps on the soft tyre. On their return
Valtteri would go quickest but would drop to third behind Rosberg ad
Hamilton. Rosberg was currently quickest with a 1m:24.946. Both Williams
cars were running the Monza aerodynamics with the smaller rear wing.
Hamilton would go quickest with a 1m:24.123. Valtteri would drop to fourth
behind Perez with Grosjean fifth followed by Palmer Grosjean would move
ahead of Valtteri to be fourth. Rosberg was out on the supersoft tyre
followed by Hamilton. Rosberg would set a 1m:23.736 to go fastest while
Valtteri would move back up to third.
But Vettel and Raikkonen would move up to third and fourth seeing Valtteri
fifth. Alonso was sixth followed by Perez, Grosjean, Verstappen and
Gutierrez. Both McLaren and Force India would run the halo during the
session. Perez was now fourth on the supersoft tyre. Hamilton would laso
improve with a 1m:23.643 still on the supersoft tyre. With fifty minutes
remaining the track was empty as drivers pitted to return their first set of
tyres back to Pirelli. The top ten was Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Perez,
Raikkonen, Verstappen, Valtteri, Ricciardo, Alonso, and Button. Both
Mercedes cars were back out on soft tyres as Rosberg set a 1m:22.959 to go
fastest.
The Williams team would say: "Big focus in #FP1 is assessing different rear
wing options. Low drag & high power are vital so we create a special Monza
rear wing package." Valtteri's next run would see him move up to fifth while
Felipe was fifteenth. Felipe would drop to seventeenth while Raikkonen would
set a 1m:24.465 remaining fourth. Both Red Bull's were running on the medium
tyre with Verstappen and Ricciardo seventh and eighth. With ten minutes
remaining Valtteri would drop to seventh and Felipe was nineteenth. Again
Raikkonen would improve with a 1m:24.047 to be third. The top ten with the
end of the session was Rosberg, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel, Perez,
Grosjean, Bottas, Verstappen, Gutierrez, Ricciardo. For Williams Valtteri
and Felipe were seventh and fourteenth in what was a largely uneventful
session for the team despite Felipe suffering an engine issue.
Valtteri Bottas:
After his installation lap Valtteri would return still on the soft
development tyre and would set a 1m:26.220 to go fastest but he would drop
to third behind the Mercedes cars. Valtteri would improve with a 1m:25.771
remaining in third. He would drop to fourth behind Perez. Valtteri would pit
having complete nine laps. Valtteri would express himself happy with the
balance of his car. While in his pit Valtteri would drop to fifth but upon
his return, still on the soft tyre, he would set a 1m:25.298 to again be
third. Valtteri had dropped to seventh as he continued to run on the soft
tyre. He had improved with a 1m:25.094. Valtteri would pit in line with
having to return this set of tyres. Valtteri would return running on a new
set of soft's and would set a 1m:24.834 to be fifth. A 1m:24.785 would see
Valtteri remaining fifth, as he continued to put in laps. Valtteri would
drop to seventh to be behind Perez and Grosjean. Valtteri continued having
completed fourteen laps with five minutes left in the session. He would
finish the session in seventh.
Felipe Massa:
After his installation lap Felipe would remain in his garage for a period of
time. With thirty minutes of the session completed Felipe was still in his
garage. The Williams team would announce that there was an issue with
Felipe's car stopping him coming out. The rear bodywork was off his car
while his mechanics worked on fixing his car. It was confirmed that he had a
boost issue and that it would be at least another thirty minutes before he
could come back out. Felipe would finally come out for his first run coming
out on the prototype soft tyre. His first lap was a 1m:26.859 to be
seventeenth. He would improve with a 1m:26.795 remaining in the same
position. A 1m:26.562 to be sixteenth with just over thirty minutes
remaining. A 1m:26.461 saw him fifteenth. Felipe would pit and would drop to
seventeenth, having completed nine laps. Felipe would return with ten
minutes remaining running on new soft tyres. Felipe would run wide at Ascari
ruining his lap but his next lap was a 1m:25.965 to be fifteenth, followed
by a 1m:25.840 to move up one spot. |
