The opening Friday practice for the 2016 European GP would see the Williams Martini team finish in 3rd and 8th, in what was a positive start to the weekend. Valtteri Bottas would finish 3rd having once been quickest in the session. For team-mate Felipe Massa his session would be limited by having to cut short his run due to damage to his tyres with the team not wanting to use a extra set.
