Spanish GP: Williams Martini finishes in top ten in FP1

The Williams Martini team would finish in the top ten aftre the opening practice session for the 2016 Spanish GP with Valtteri Bottas in 7th and Felipe Massa 9th. It was an uneventful session for the Williams team with both drivers setting their quickest times early in the session followed by longer runs all completed on the medium tyre.

Martini Spanish GP Friday 1st Practice
Team Summary:
At a track that the Formula One teams know very well the Williams Martini
team would commence their opening Friday practice session with both drivers
coming out on the hard tyre completing single laps. It was reported that
Williams had brought very little in terms of upgrades. The first quickest
time would come from Rosberg with a 1m:26.951 followed by Hamilton. A
1m:25.931 from Hamilton which was quicker than the times set in 2015. A
1m:25.456 from Rosberg with both drivers on the medium tyre. Both Mercedes
drivers would improve with Rosberg still quickest with a 1m:25.374 with
Hamilton just 0.002 behind.
Both Mercedes cars would pit as Raikkonen came out on the soft tyre.
Hulkenberg was now third followed by Nasr and Ericsson. Raikkonen was now
third with a 1m:25.635. Both Williams cars were out for their first timed
runs, both on the medium tyre. Vettel was out on the soft and would go
quickest with a 1m:25.193. Both Williams cars continued to put in laps on
the medium tyre with Felipe having a quick spin. With an hour remaining the
Williams cars were fifth and sixth. Vettel would improve with a 1m:25.060
remaining top.
But on well used medium tyres Rosberg would set a 1m:24.880 to again be
quickest. The track would clear with forty minutes being completed in the
session. The Williams drivers weer currently sixth and ninth. Raikkonen was
back out still on the soft tyre setting a 1m:24.089 to be quickest. This was
quicker than 2015's qualifying time. Both Williams drivers were back out
with just under forty minutes remaining, running on new medium tyres. A
1m:24.454 from Rosberg, remaining second. Felipe was now sixth as Hamilton
moved up to third.
The Williams pair were now sixth and seventh as Verstappen went fifth.
Thirty minutes remaining and both Williams drivers were still in their pits.
Vettel was on a new set of soft tyres and would go quickest with a
1m:23.951. Under ten minutes remaining and Felipe would have a half spin at
Turn five running off the track. With the end of the session the top ten
would be Vettel followed by Raikkonen, Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo,
Verstappen, Valtteri, Sainz, Felipe, and Alonso tenth.
Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out for Williams using the hard tyre for his
installation lap. He would pit after a single lap. Felipe would return
running on the medium tyre. Felipe would set a slow 1m:30.048. But his next
lap was a 1m:27.200 to be fifth behind his team-mate. Felipe would have a
spin at Turn five just locking up his inside front seeing his car turn
itself around. Felipe would drop to eighth as others went quicker. Felipe
would make quick pit stop returning to the track. Felipe would also pit also
having completed thirteen laps. Felipe would also come out running on the
medium tyres.
Felipe would set a 1m:26.186 to move up to sixth right behind his team-mate.
After four laps Felipe would pit. Felipe would drop to ninth behind Sainz.
Felipe would come back out with seventeen minutes remaining. He was on his
set of used medium tyre. Felipe would have another moment at Turn five but
was able to continue having run wide with both right wheels onto the grass.
Seven minutes remaining and Felipe had completed eleven laps. With the end
of the session he had completed seventeen laps.
Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would follow his team-mate out also running on the hard tyre.
Valtteri would pit after a single lap. Valtteri was back out and would set a
1m:26.553, running on the medium tyre. Valtteri would takes to the pits
stopping prior to coming back out still on the medium tyre. Valtteri would
pit again having completed thirteen laps currently sixth. Valtteri would
come back out for his next run again on the medium tyre. He would pit after
five laps. Valtteri had set a 1m:25.672 improving on his previous. Valtteri
would return after a short stop still on the used medium tyre. With minutes
remaining and Valtteri had completed sixteen laps. He would finish the
session having completed twenty one laps after a long run on the medium
tyres.
