Australian GP: FP2 sees no times from Williams drivers

March 18 2016

The second Friday practice session for the 2016 Australian GP would see neither Williams Martini team set a time having completed only a handful of laps. The session would start wet and would continue that way until late in the session where it would start to dry but just prior to the Williams drivers coming out it would start to rain again. The Williams team would use their limited running to complete practice pit stops for both drivers.

Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session was again start with a very wet track that would see neither Williams car take to the track. With fifteen minutes of the session complete neither Williams driver had taken to their cars. The first time would be a 1m:49.017 from Ricciardo on intermediates. A 1m:44.288 from Kvyat with thirty minutes of the session completed followed by a 1m:42.902 from Sainz. Rosberg would crash his car at Turn seven seeing a Virtual Safety Car deployed.

A 1m:41.694 from Alonso with both Williams cars still in their garages. He would follow this up with a 1m:39.895 with Perez and Hulkenberg second and third. The track was very busy as it started to dry. Sainz was now quickest with a 1m:39.786 from Alonso. But Raikkonen would go quickest with a 1m:39.486. Everyone was still on the intermediate tyre as the session continued. Thirty minutes remaining and still no times from the Williams drivers. But both Valtteri and Felipe were getting ready to come out.

Hamilton would go quickest with a 1m:38.841 in drying conditions. Hulkenberg was now second as the rain started to fall again with fifteen minutes remaining. Both Valtteri and Felipe were in their cars but they were not going anywhere given the conditions. But surprisingly both Valtteri and Felipe would come out running on intermediate tyres. The Williams team would say it was mainly for practice pit stops. The session would end with neither Williams driver having set a time.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would come out with just six minutes remaining. Felipe would pit after just two untimed laps. He would go through a practice pit stop prior to being pushed back into his garage.

Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would follow Felipe out with just six minutes remaining. Valtteri would also pit after having also completed his practice pit stop. and would return to his garage.
