The 2016 Formula
One season will mark the final year of Felipe Massa's contract with the
Williams Martini team. But the Brazilian is confident that 2017 will again
see him driving as he views himself as being one of the most experienced
drivers in a season that will see some of the biggest changes in Formula
One.
The 2017 season will see major changes to the rules and these changes will
impose restrictions on such things as man hours as well as time in the wind
tunnel. This will place a major focus on drivers being able to assist in the
development process.
Felipe feels that his experience as well as pace will make him a good
choice. Whether he remains with Williams is yet to be seen but he is
confident that he can retain a drive with one of the top teams.
In an interview with Autosport.com Felipe said: "I think I have opportunity
to carry on in a good level.
"Next season will be a big change for everybody and people will be looking
for experience.
"They will want drivers who know what to say and do to help the development
of a team.
"So maybe it can be I stay in a good level, but it's difficult to say now."
AS for whether he feels that he has to make a decision as to his driving in
the 2017 season sooner rather than later Felipe wants to focus on 2016
before getting too involved in such a decision.
Felipe added: "I
have another year of contract, I'm so happy here. This year, we will see
what I do. If I don't have the opportunity to carry on in a level I believe
I need and deserve, maybe I will stop.
"I will have time to think about it."
